Vulva or Vagina?

Foof. Floof. Fairy. Flower. Fanny. Foo foo. Lulu. Flange. Lady Garden. Muff. Minge. Mini. Downstairs. Doo-dah. Hoo ha. Noo noo. Nonny. Front bottom. Bits. Bean. Box. Hole. Beaver. Growler. Kitty. Pussy. Penis Fly Trap. Tuppence. Snatch.

A non-exhaustive list of words that people use to describe their genitals.

But what is it REALLY?

VAGINA
is a word that a lot of people misuse - it is actually only the internal tube that leads to your cervix and your womb.

VULVA
is the correct anatomical term for everything you can see externally - including your labia, clitoris, urethra etc.

An interesting, but slightly concerning, fact is that the basic meaning of the word vagina in Latin is ‘sheath for a sword’…

What concerns me even more is that I didn’t actually know the difference myself until only a couple of years ago. I’m almost 33 years old.

I was never taught ANYTHING about my own body - so rest assured there will be lots to follow on THAT topic…

It was in reading Lydia’s INCREDIBLE book - My Vulva & I - that resulted in me falling deeply in love with her body casting work and seeing, for the first time in my life, a beautiful diverse range of REAL vulvas!

After using her DIY vulva casting kit with my best friend, I knew this was work that I wanted to (NEEDED to) do… and she eventually gave in to my relentless requests to come and work with her.

Everything I read in that book and all of the people I have since met during our casting sessions is what has pointed my business in the direction of body acceptance because, to me, self love can only happen from a place of self acceptance.

It still makes me so sad to hear how people speak about themselves - and especially their bodies - and that is why I have made a pledge to at least TRY and help us all to overcome this self deprecating narrative.

Step one: UNDERSTANDING
Step two: ACCEPTANCE
Step three: LOVE

You are ENOUGH, exactly as you are!
